Further down the page, you’ll find some explanations regarding the key similarities and differences between the Dolphin Proteus DX3 and the Dolphin Proteus DX4.
But before checking out explanations regarding their power, portability, and features, here’s a table that summarizes the main technical summary sheet for these 2 robotic pool cleaner:
Portability Comparison
The DOLPHIN Proteus DX3 has a 22 x 18 x 13 inches dimension, whereas the DOLPHIN Proteus DX4 is slightly thinner with the same height but 0.5 inches taller and 0.5 inches narrower. Although the Dolphin Proteus DX4 (28 pounds) is 0.5 pounds heavier than Dolphin Proteus DX3, it still looks slimmer, neater, and easier to store than the other.
Dolphin Proteus DX4 has a remarkable feature of anti-tangle cable, making it easier to carry or store the product. In contrast, DX3 does not have an anti-tangle cable which makes it easily tangled together. When the cable is tangled too much, the cable is easily damaged faster, making the life of the machine reduced.
On the other hand, the DX3 comes with a 50 feet long cable, while the DX4 cable is 10 feet long.
Power Comparison
Compared to cleaning capacity, the DX3 can efficiently clean a pool of up to 33 feet deep, and the DX4 is up to 50 feet. Therefore, DX4 will be suitable for swimming pools with quite large depths.
Both devices have single top-loaded filter baskets in terms of filter type, but DX4 offers a larger basket containing more leaves, dirt, and algae. Hence, we consider that the Dolphin Proteus DX4 will be the winner in this section.
Two robot cleaners both have the high-speed front scrubber, but the DX4 provides an extra standard back scrubber, scrubbing the pool deeper and more thoroughly.
The first similarity between Dolphin Proteus DX3 and DX4 is that the two products have the same function time – they only take about 2 hours to finish the cleaning task.
Moreover, you can easily start them and do not need to spend extra money on additional equipment, as the Dolphin cleaners are plug-in pool cleaners. This feature helps you to prolong the machines’ longevity and save more energy than other cleaners on the market.
Features Comparison
Unfortunately, you can not use your phone to control and manage the Dolphin Proteus DX3 and Dolphin Proteus DX4. To be more specific, they lack smartphone and connectivity and smartphone capacities, unlike other modern robot cleaners.
However, the manufacturer had equipped the Proteus DX3 with a weekly scheduler for you to set a cleaning schedule in three modes: Every day, every other day, or every three days. The Dolphin Proteus DX4, however, only available one standard cleaning time, which makes it a big drawback about it.

Conclusion
In our opinion, we would prefer DOLPHIN Proteus DX4 to DX3. Firstly, we have a strong belief that the DX4 will work great when cleaning up Winter & Spring’s worth of algae in a short amount of time. It is lighter, much easier to clean, and sucks up way more from the bottom of the gunite/ Pebble Tec pool. DX4 has a Front High-Speed Scrubber and Standard Back Scrubber, which can enhance the clearness of the pools.
